Friday 17 May 2024 Post 1

The South African Maritime Safety Authority joins the maritime fraternity in observing the globally recognised IMO International Day for Women in Maritime. The day will once again be observed worldwide on Saturday, 18 May 2024.
The International Day for women in Maritime was inaugurated on 18 May 2022 and seeks to celebrate women in the maritime industry whilst promoting the recruitment, retention and sustained employment of women in the sector. The day also aims to strengthen IMO’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 (gender equality) and support work to address the current gender imbalance in maritime.
This year’s theme “Safe Horizons: Women Shaping the Future of Maritime Safety” focusses on getting the views of women in the industry on what maritime safety looks like. We have spoken to a few women in SAMSA to hear their views and look forward to sharing them with you as we celebrate the third International Day for Women in Maritime tomorrow.
