KENYA’S CELEBRATION OF THE DAY OF THE SEAFARER 2020

The Kenyan Maritime Authority reported to the Head Secretariat that their celebrations of the 2020 Day of the Seafarers was celebrated on media and digital platforms due to the outbreak of Covid-19. The activities of the day included an interactive program on The Day of the Seafarer broadcasted on Citizen Television and on a national TV station. The activities centered on the topic of Seafarers as essential workers.The objective of the program was to shape and reinforce perceptions on recognition of the role of Seafarers. The discussion included the Principal Secretary, The State Department of Shipping and Maritime,Mrs. Nancy Karigithu, the Acting Director General, KMA, MR. John Omningo, Representative from the International Federation of Transport Workers (IFT), Ms. Betty Makena, The Secretary General, Seafarers Union of Kenya (SUK),Mr. Stephen Owaki and the Chaplain,Mission to Seafarers as well as Rev. Moses Muli. Furthermore, The day of the Seafarer campaign was promoted through Social Media Platforms such as Facebook -Kenya Maritime Authority and Twitter @kmakenya as well as on print media and editorial articles in Kenyan daily newspapers.

The Kenyan Maritime Authority reported their reinforcement of the African Day of the Seas and Oceans on the 25th of July through promotion of the day on their social medial platforms, Facebook-Kenya Maritime Authority and Twitter-@KMakenya  as well as pitching stories on the day on print media in compliance with Covid-19 Prevention measures.
